How we handle your details
Ikhaya Rooms rents out rooms and short stays in South Africa. This notice explains what happens to the information you share with our rental assistant, in plain language.
What we collect
- The messages you send in our chat.
- Details you choose to share: your name, phone or WhatsApp number, email address, preferred area, budget, move-in date, how long you want to stay, how many people will stay and how you would like to pay.
- Which link brought you to the chat, for example one of our Facebook posts, so we know where renters find us.
- A scrambled version of your internet address, used only to stop abuse of the chat.
Why we use it
- To answer your questions and match you with a room or short stay.
- To pass your move-in date, payment preference and contact details to the owner when you confirm that you want to go ahead.
Who sees it
- The owner of the rooms you are asking about.
- Our chat is answered by an AI assistant, so your messages are processed by an AI service to write its replies.
- We never sell your information, and we never ask for bank details, card numbers or ID numbers in the chat.
Your rights
- Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) you can ask to see the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it.
- You can also object to how we use it, and you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
